7 Superb Prints On Art Paper, In The Original Cardboard Mailer

If this set were complete it would contain the 9 prints that Hallmark produced to raise money at the 1964 N.Y. World’s Fair for an educational charity. 2 prints are missing, but never-the-less this is a sort-after selection, especially since the condition of each print is Fine: no creases, no tears, rips or foxing. The 2 missing prints are named Bottlescape & Mimizan.

Churchill and Joyce Hall (Hallmark Cards) enjoyed a deep relationship. It was Hall (together with help from President Eisenhower) who convinced Churchill to display his paintings in the US. Finally, after years of persuasion, Churchill selected 35 of his paintings and crossed the Atlantic to Kansas City, (Hall’s home town) where this first exhibit opened in the Nelson Gallery of Art in 1958. Churchill’s Art Exhibition was tremendously popular; attendance records were regularly broken as it moved about prestigious US galleries including the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC., and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Produced in a limited edition, Christmas 1965. The income “will be used to establish a Churchill School of International Affairs on the campus of an American university” as stated on the back of each print.

These 7 prints come in the original folder which features a sketch of Churchill on the front together with a quote. On an inner flap is a short essay: Winston Churchill The Painter.
