Hodder & Stoughton, London 1909

414pp.
Limited to 5000 copies, but it still seems to be quite a scarce work especially in this condition.

Bound in burgundy cloth with gilt titling to spine and gilt signature of Churchill blocked onto the front cover.
Protected in a quarter blue leather clamshell book-like box with gilt titling on the spine

Containing speeches by the young liberal Winston Churchill. The book is a very good copy with minimum wear, spine darkened but the contents are clean and bright and free from foxing.

Bound in burgundy cloth with gilt titling to spine and gilt signature of Churchill blocked onto the front cover. This book is protected in a quarter blue leather clamshell book-like box with gilt titling on the spine; a truly collectable item.

This is a particularly scarce copy and  is signed by Churchill in full signature on the front free endpaper.  This book is Churchill’s great friend F.E. Smith’s (Lord Birkenhead) copy, with his bookplate on the front pastedown.

F.E. Smith (later Lord Birkenhead) was born on 12 July 1872 in Birkenhead, England, a suburb of Liverpool; he was the second child and eldest son of seven children born to Frederick and Elizabeth Smith. His father was a councilor and a solicitor, but the family fortune came mostly from his grandfather’s business in real estate.

He attended Liverpool University in 1891 and was awarded a scholarship to Wadham College, Oxford, where he distinguished himself as President of the Union, earned a First  degree in Jurisprudence and was awarded a Law Scholarship. He was elected a Fellow of Merton College and spent three-years as a Lecturer in Law.
