Ian Hamilton’s March – Winston Churchill

Ian Hamilton’s March
Author: Winston S. Churchill

Churchill’s 5th Published Book

First American Edition, only printing.
New York: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1900.

Hardcover. No dust jacket as issued.
Top edge gilt.
Preserved in mylar jacket.
10 maps & plans plus the frontispiece with tissue guard are all perfectly preserved.

Ian Hamilton’s March is the second of his two books based on his newspaper despatches sent from the front in South Africa. The first book was London to Ladysmith via Pretoria (Churchill’s 4th published book).

This U.S. first edition of Ian Hamilton’s March was limited to a single printing. The number sold is unclear, but it seems that this copy is one of 1533, so the American edition is considerably scarcer than the British first edition, of which more than 5,000 first printing copies were issued.
