Harrow School Song Book – Signed by Churchill

Here’s a Harrow School Song Book signed by Winston S. Churchill on the Title page. This 1949 copy of the Song Book is a reprint of the original 1938 edition. Churchill’s authentic hand-written signature is just above the school crest.

Michael H. Banos owned this copy of the Harrow School Song Book: his signature and date (in red) are at the top of the front free endpaper. Beneath his autograph he added the following inscription in blue/black:

This song book was signed by Churchill following the ‘New Boys’ solo song to him in the Autumn term of 1960.

The song was sung to him by the writer Michael H. Banos.

– Five Hundred Faces, P. 46. –

I was proud to speak with him [Sir winston Churchill] for some five minutes for though slightly deaf he was very kind.

Harrow was Churchill’s old school and this book is a rare find. It’s not often that I’ve come across a Song Book from Harrow signed by Winston Churchill.
