Published by Easton Press, Norwalk, 2006
Easton Press leather bound edition of Churchill’s first published book, written while he was a young cavalry officer and war correspondent fighting and writing on the northwest frontier of British colonial India.
A mint copy in the original shrink wrap without dustjacket as issued. The binding is in dark green leather with elaborate gilt decoration/raised bands. Printed on archival quality paper, all edges gilt, satin ribbon page marker, and moire silk end papers. (The book has never been removed from the publisher’s original shrink wrap hence the reflections in the photos.)
When Churchill joined Sir Bindon Blood’s expedition on the Northwest Frontier of India in 1897 he was a young cavalry officer still serving in India. The book is based on his dispatches to the Daily Telegraph and the Pioneer Mail – this was his first book-length work.
The finished manuscript was sent to his mother on the last day of 1897 and published on 14 March of 1898.
