Spode Bone China plate. Stoke-on-Trent, England
One of a limited edition of five thousand numbered plates commissioned by Thomas Goode and Co. Ltd. of London, this is number 996. The plate features a portrait of Churchill flanked by rampant lions surrounded by a gilt border. Josiah Spode founded the pottery in 1770, and Spode pottery mastered the technique for transfer printing.
The plate measures 10.5 inches in diameter and is in perfect condition.
The Spode plate is probably the most attractive of all Churchill plates and follows the style of the beautiful Spode Urn which you will also find on this website.
