The Second World War, 12 Vol. Set: Winston Churchill
SOLD
The Second World War, 12 volume set.
Heron (Third Illustrated) Edition
Author: Winston Churchill
Heron Books, London. 1974 (issued to mark the Churchill Centenary.)
The text in each book in this set comes from different editions of the original according to the author of The Connoisseur’s Guide to the Book of Winston Churchill, Richard Langworth. p275
“The text of Volumes I-VI was offprinted from the considerably revised Second Editions of Gathering Storm & Finest Hour (1949, 1950). Volumes V-VII appear to be offprinted from English First Editions, but Volume VIII (‘Book Two’ of The Hinge of Fate) comes from the 1968 Fourth Edition, second impression. Volumes IX-X are from the 1966 Fourth Edition of Closing The Ring, while Volumes XI-XII are from the 1954 Second Edition of Triumph and Tragedy. Evidently all these were the current trade editions in 1974.”
A nice attractive set presented in the original 12 volumes as Churchill wrote it. Originally sold via mail order by The Heron Books firm in 1974
Bound in quarter brown morocco and olive Kivar with a gilt Churchill medallion on the cover.
The books measure ~ 5.5″ x 8.75″ and are profusely illustrated.
