Pol Roger was Churchill’s Champagne of choice; he first became a Pol Roger customer in 1908.

On November 12th, 1944, at the newly re-opened British Embassy in Paris where Duff Cooper was the British Ambassador, Churchill first sampled the 1928 vintage of Pol Roger which became his favorite vintage. Duff Cooper also introduced Churchill to Odette Pol Roger who became a lifelong friend and used to send Churchill a case of the 1928 vintage every year for his birthday until they ran out of this vintage in 1953. Churchill also named one of his racehorses after Odette Pol Roger.
