Patek Philippe Observatory Chronometer Pocket Watch from Paul Von Hindenburg’s Family Estate

Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, (born October 2, 1847, in Posen, Prussia (now Poznan, Poland) died August 2, 1934, Neudeck. A German field marshal during World War I and second president of the Weimar Republic 1925-34. His presidential terms were wracked by political instability, economic depression, and the rise to power of Adolf Hitler, whom he appointed chancellor in 1933.

The case is silver with an hand engraved portrait of Paul Von Hindenburg.

The watch case displays the German merit order “Pour le Merite” with blue enamel. The Pour le Mérite, known informally as the Blue Max was the Kingdom of Prussia’s highest order of merit. It was awarded strictly as recognition of extraordinary personal achievement.
