Luxembourg: Grand Cross, The Order of the Oaken Crown

On July 14, 1946 Winston Churchill received the Order by the Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg at the Grand Ducal Palace, Luxembourg City, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. (Please Note – the Order listed here is not the actual one awarded to Winston Churchill.)

Winston Churchill was awarded the Order of the Oaken Crown for the “decisive part he played in the defeat of Nazi Germany and the preservation of freedom and independence by the occupied and oppressed European countries during World War II”. The breast star for the Grand Cross of the Order is an eight pointed star in silver with the same gothic W in the center.

The badge of the Order of the Oaken Crown is a Maltese Cross of gold with white enameled arms. In the center is a gothic letter W for the Grand Duke William with a gold crown above the W. The badge is worn suspended at the waist from a bow on a sash riband of yellow orange moiré with three green bands symbolizing Luxembourg’s oak forests.

Presentation case measures approx. 11.5″ x 5″ x 2″.

In original green presentation case with velvet base & lid lined in satin: all in Excellent Condition.
