My Early Life – A Roving Commission
Author: Winston Churchill
Odhams Press Limited, London, 1948.
There are many editions of this book but the plates at the front remain the same (when included). As the name implies, this book by Churchill is about his first 25 years up until he was elected the Conservative Member of Parliament for Oldham.
From the inside flap of the dustjacket: ” To illustrate the story is a selection of photographs, chiefly from Mr. Churchill’s private collection, and a set of maps and diagrams, all specially re-drawn for this edition.”
Growing up Churchill went to Sandhurst, joined the 4th Hussars, went to Bangalor, was taken prisoner in Pretoria, then escaped. The final photo is Churchill in the South African Light Horse Regiment of the British Army.
Frontispiece shows Churchill as Member for Oldham, 1900
Book and dustjacket are both in Excellent Condition except for very minor foxing to page edges and a barely noticeable pen mark on the front cover (see pic).
