The book is in very good condition with minimal wear apart from the dust jacket which is worn with several chips, but it is the correct jacket for the third impression.
Major General Wilton Persons (1896-1977) was an Army officer who entered service in 1917 and rose through the ranks to major general in 1944. He served in both World Wars, then worked for the Department of Defense from 1948-1949. Dwight D. Eisenhower called him back to active duty as a special assistant at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe from 1951-52. He was active in Eisenhower’s campaign for president in 1952. Persons became a deputy assistant to the president in 1953 and was made assistant to the president in 1958. He served throughout Eisenhower’s presidency, finally replacing Sherman Adams as Eisenhower’s Chief of Staff in 1958.
This book was purchased from the Estate auction of Major General Persons in Virginia.
