Born July 11th, 1909, died October 20th, 1963, at the age of fifty-four.
Diana married John Milner Bailey in 1932 but divorced him only three years later. In Sept. 1935 she married Duncan Sandys, a Conservative MP who became one of Churchill’s few loyal supporters in the ‘wilderness years’ of the late 1930s. They had one son, Julian, in 1936, and two daughters Edwina in 1938 and Celia in 1943.
Diana served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during the War. Her marriage to Duncan Sandys ended in divorce in 1960. During her short life she suffered mental health problems and died at the age of fifty-four in 1963 (preceding her father’s death), from an overdose of sleeping pills.
