Clementine Churchill Letter: Facsimile Signature
A facsimile letter printed on both sides, dated February 1942 from Clementine Churchill.
The letter is on 10 Downing Street stationery and is thanking someone for their generous contribution to the “Aid to Russia” fund.
Also included with this letter is a copy of Clementine Churchill’s little book, “My Visit To Russia”. The book is in blue card wrappers and contains 59pp.
The Aid to Russia Fund: Clementine always tried to acknowledge all donations that were sent personally to her. Because there were thousands of these she couldn’t write to each donor personally as she would have preferred. Instead, she wrote several slightly different letters and signed each of them: they were then photographed and reproduced, and her secretary mailed them out. There are several examples of the thank you letter. The one featured here says ‘Dear Madam’, others say Dear and the secretary has penned in the person’s name.
