5 Versions of Churchill’s book The Dream including the 1987 First Edition
The Dream was originally written in 1947. This is one of Churchill’s very few non-fiction writings: it is an imaginary conversation with his Father. (Churchill’s only novel is Savrola, first published in 1899)
It was first published in The Sunday Telegraph on 30th January 1966.
– The first published edition in single volume form was done by the International Churchill Society in 1987, a limited edition of 500 to reward the supporters of the first fund appeal, undertaken to finance republication of unavailable early works by Churchill.
– The second edition of The Dream was produced in an edition of 1000 copies with 70 copies bound in green leather by Robert Hartnoll Ltd. Bodmin, Cornwall. The 70 copies in leather binding were for Churchill family members celebrating the 120th anniversary of Sir Winston’s birth at the Pinafore Room, Hotel Savoy on 30th November 1994.
– The Dream was also published in Latvian in an edition of 25 for presentation to President Guntis Ulmanis of Latvia by Friend of ICS Richard Ralph, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Latvia.
– A further lavish edition in full blue leather with a drawing by Sarah Churchill reproduced on the front board, was published by Levenger Press in 2005 with an introduction by Richard M. Langworth and Afterword by Churchill’s grandson Winston S. Churchill, this edition comes in a silver paper covered protective gift box.
