Randolph Churchill (Sir Winston’s son) wrote the first two volumes of the official life of his father, with Martin Gilbert as his research assistant. Upon Randolph’s death in 1968 – while working on volume three – Gilbert became Churchill’s official biographer until his death in 2015.
