Churchill Jug – Very Rare – Kevin Francis/Peggy Davies

Only 3 of these Churchill Jugs in this colourway were ever completed

This magnificent jug is one of only 3 in this special colourway. Originally Vince McDonald, the designer owned two jugs and Ray Noble the modeler, owned the third jug. The jug listed here was one of Vince McDonald’s; I purchased it from him about 10 years ago.

In 1995 Ray Noble modelled this jug with the intent that it would be bigger and better than any jug made. The intention was to make 1,000 but nowhere near that many were produced due to the complexity and cost of painting them.

This heavy jug is almost 8.5″ high, and the widest part of the base is approx 9.5″.

The originals in full paint colours were made at the Kevin Francis/Peggy Davies Studio in Stoke-on-Trent and carried a “Noble Ceramics” backstamp.

In 1999 Vince McDonald and Ray Noble decided to try a simpler approach to painting the jugs and the version we see here was born. Unfortunately the painting was still a lengthy process and only 3 jugs were completed.

So this Churchill Jug, being 1 of 3 is a very scarce item.
