Welcome
"One of the Largest Private Collections to Come on the Market"Jennie Jerome – Carte De Visite – The Three Sisters
Cartes De Visite: “The Three Sisters” featuring Jennie Jerome, Churchill’s mother, and her two sisters.
In the 1860’s Cartes De Visite( CdV) were very popular.
This CdV is probably from 1863 or later because of the absence of the Jerome’s fourth child, Camille who died suddenly in 1863. Jennie Jerome, Churchill’s mother is on the left, with her two sisters Clara (born 1851) & Leonie (born 1859).
Measuring 2.5″x4″ the CdV is a thin paper photograph (measuring ~ 2″x3.5″) mounted on a thicker paper card with text below. The CdV and its successor, the larger Cabinet Card was a style of photograph used up until the 1900s when Kodak came out with its popular Brownie camera.
This is a rare CdV photograph published by Anthony’s of New York from a negative in Brady’s National Portrait Gallery.
