Silver Salver – Silver Card Tray – Wedding Gift to Winston & Clementine Churchill

Heavy Silver Salver or Card Tray formerly the property of Winston and Clementine Churchill.

Beautifully engraved, “To Winston and Clementine on the occasion of their Marriage 12th September 1908”.

This item came from Mentmore Towers, the estate of the 6th Earl of Rosebery, who’s father, the 5th Earl of Rosebery (Archibald Philip Primrose 7th May 1847 – 21st May 1929) succeeded Gladstone as Prime Minister in 1894; ironically the post that Churchill’s father Lord Randolph Churchill was hoping to procure. The public auction at Mentmore in 1973, raised several million pounds.

Mentmore Towers is the location used to film the movie “Eyes Wide Shut”.
