Posted on Nov 29, 2011

An historical account of the Reconquest of the Soudan. Edited by Col. F. Rhodes.

Here is a near fine set of the River War, 2 Vols, large 8tvo., original dark blue cloth with gilt vignette of gunboat on upper covers. While not too difficult to find, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to acquire a set in this condition. Only 2,000 copies of this first edition were printed and the reviews that followed resulted in a second impression within two months. The editor Col. F. Rhodes, elder brother of Cecil Rhodes was correspondent for The Times during the campaign.

This set is protected in custom made clamshell book-like cases. Value for this set: $8,500.
