An oval miniature by Maria Eaton of Winston Churchill, circa 1910, showing head and shoulders, full face, wearing evening dress with white tie, against a green background.
65mmx50mm, in gilt metal surround, presented in a hinged velvet-lined red leather case with clasp.

Maria Eaton specialized in painting miniatures. Born in Macclesfield, Cheshire in 1860, she moved to London around 1905. She exhibited many works between 1890 & 1937, often at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and the Society of Women Artists, as well as major provincial galleries. She married the landscape painter and architect Ernest Hampshire.
