INDIA SPEECHES, WINSTON CHURCHILL – 1st Edn, 1st Impression in Wraps

Posted on Oct 7, 2012

First Edition, First Impression

Thornton Butterworth, London, 1931. First published in both orange wraps and orange cloth, this being the orange wraps publication. The wraps edition is the one usually seen, although neither is common. 5×7.25″, 143 pages. Click here to see my listing of the orange cloth edition.

Churchill was very critical of Gandhi and strongly opposed Independence for India in the 1930s. This book publishes 10 of his speeches on the subject. It is now a scarce title although you can usually find copies with the leading Churchill book dealers.

A very good copy; the binding is tight, the spine is bright and clean with no wear at ends. Covers clean and bright. Preserved in a blue buckram clam-shell box with title down the spine.
