Coalport Vase – The Winston Churchill Vase, 1974

Posted on Feb 8, 2018

The centenary of Churchill’s birth in 1974 was the occasion that led to the production of the greatest range of commemorative items of a non-royal person in history.

One of the finest pieces was this Coalport vase commissioned by Francis Sinclair of Doncaster, a high class retailer.

The vase in bone china, measures 12” tall, and is heavily gilded with a golden eagle on top the lid’s handle (making it part of the handle).
The obverse of the vase has a painting of Blenheim Palace, Churchill’s birthplace.
The reverse features the Churchill coat of arms flanked on either side by dark silhouettes of Churchill. Decorative oak leaves and acorns frame this to the outer edges.

Limited to 200 pieces,  this one is #6

A scarce Churchill item
