Cartier Gold Fountain Pen

Posted on Feb 3, 2012

This beautiful gold fountain pen belonged to Mr. Bernard Baruch, a close and trusted friend of Sir Winston Churchill. It was given to him by Sir Winston’s son, Randolph Churchill. The inscription on the pen reads:

The Boss
from that grateful journalist
R. S. C.
Value: $1,500

In 1989 Grace Hamblin, (Winston and Clementine Churchill’s private secretary for more than 40 years) wrote and signed the document below. She states that she received this pen as a ‘momento’ from Mr Baruch’s Nurse and Confidante, Miss Elizabeth Navarro sometime after the deaths of both men in 1965. ¬†Provenance such as this makes collecting Churchilliana such a joy.

This beautiful pen has excellent association; Baruch was a very good friend of Churchill. The significance of the words, “The Boss”, can be found in the document Grace Hamblin wrote: (see below).
