Posted on Jan 19, 2012

This is my favorite medallic portrait of Churchill – a truly wonderful set.

It is a memorial issue of 1965 by A. Lowental and based on the larger 1945 Allied Victory Commemorative Medal Engstrom 12. These four medals are housed in a red leather case.

  • 50mm  – 22ct Gold – 109 grams
  • 50mm – 9 ct Gold – 81 grams
  • 50mm – Silver – 77.5 grams
  • 50mm – Bronze
Emitted by B.A. Seaby, Ltd. London. Struck by John Pinches (Medalists) Ltd., London. The obverse is the bust of Churchill looking left, death date superimposed and the reverse has an hand rising above a cloud holding the victory torch.

The legend reads

Unflinching Indomitable His Spirit Saved Britain And So The World
